Applications Officially Open for the Sixth Digital Pioneer Awards, with a New AI Security Contribution Category

May 12, 2025

In May 2025, the Association for Digital Science Promotion and Research announced that applications had officially opened for the sixth "Digital Pioneer Awards". Building on the five traditional award categories, this edition adds, for the first time, an "AI Security Contribution Award" subcategory under the "Cybersecurity Contribution Award" to recognize researchers and engineers who have made important contributions in the field of artificial intelligence safety.

This is the first category expansion since the Digital Pioneer Awards were established. Wang Zhixuan, chair of the selection organizing committee, explained that the decision to add the AI safety category came from an in-depth assessment of current technology development trends. With the broad deployment of large language models and generative AI, issues such as model security, defense against adversarial attacks, and the reliability of AI systems have become increasingly prominent. Globally, AI safety research has moved from a peripheral field to a core topic, yet outstanding researchers and practitioners in this direction still lack a dedicated channel for academic recognition.

This edition is open to digital science practitioners worldwide, with an application deadline of August 31, 2025. Applicants must hold a master's degree or above, have more than three years of professional experience in a relevant field, and submit no fewer than three representative achievements. ADSPR members may apply independently, while non-members must be recommended by a member to participate.

Looking back at the previous five editions, the Digital Pioneer Awards have received more than 2,000 application materials in total, covering applicants from more than 20 countries and regions. In the fifth edition, applications for the Cybersecurity Contribution Award increased by 40% compared with the fourth edition, reflecting the industry's high level of attention to security issues.

The selection process will continue to use a three-stage review mechanism: preliminary review (qualification review), expert review (anonymous scoring), and final review (vote by the selection organizing committee). External independent judges will account for no less than 60% of the final review committee, ensuring the independence and fairness of the selection. The final review is expected to be completed in November 2025 and enter the public notice stage, with the award ceremony planned for January 2026.

Researchers interested in applying are invited to visit the Association's official website to learn the detailed selection rules and application requirements, or to send application materials to the Association's official email address.
